The amount budgeted for 2012 is $9,500 to be paid for out of the Charitable Gambling fund. Three quotes have been received for the fireworks show scheduled for Wednesday, July 4, 2012, with an alternate rainout date of July 5, 2012. Quotes were received as follows: Total Score for 3 ", 4 ", 5 ", 6" Shells RES Specialty Pyrotechnics 2778 Pyrotechnic Display Inc. 2708 Lew's Fireworks 1431 This is the first year that RES Specialty Pyrotechnics has placed a bid for the Faribault Fireworks Display. They are a well respected company in the industry. They have provided fireworks for many Minnesota communities and Minnesota professional sports teams. In December 2011, they won an international fireworks competition. Pyrotechnics Display was the fireworks vendor selected in 2011. As required, RES Specialty Pyrotechnics will provide a Certificate of Insurance for liability insurance, to be approved by the City Attorney. The display operators will be certified pyrotechnicians. The display site is located at South Alexander Park. People will be able to view the show from both South and North Alexander Parks and the surrounding areas. RES Specialty Pyrotechnics will have a representative meet with city staff to discuss the site plans and set up for the event. Recommendation: It is recommended to award the bid for the fireworks display to RES Specialty Pyrotechnics from Belle Plaine, MN, for the July 4, 2012 fireworks display, with a rainout date of July 5, 2012. RES Specialty Pyrotechnics wins International Fireworks Competition RES Specialty Pyrotechnics of Belle Plaine, MN, won the first place trophy in the Thailand International Fireworks Contest, held December 17 in Pattaya, Thailand. The competition was held to honor His Majesty the King of Thailand for his birthday. RES Specialty Pyrotechnics (Team USA) and Flashart of United Arab Emirates (Team UAE) were selected as the finalists from teams representing eight different countries, including Thailand, Australia, China, Denmark, Italy, Japan, UAE and USA. The total competitive program spanned over a two -year period, where the various countries provided displays in Bangkok, Pattaya and Chiang Mai, Thailand. For the final competition, Team USA and Team UAE provided colorful and dynamic 20- minute displays choreographed to music and fired from two barges in Pattaya Bay. An audience of thousands lined the beachfront and watched from buildings overlooking the bay. RES was represented at the competition by Steve and Camille Coman, Tracy Vanasek and Ery Haman. "The competition was very exciting," commented Tracy. "Just being there and then winning first place was really great for our company and country," she added. RES was founded in 1983 by Steve Coman. In addition to performing fireworks displays, the company is a manufacturer of specialty pyrotechnics — the type typically used in rock concerts, on cruise ships, at theme parks and sporting venues. Their product is shipped extensively throughout North America and the rest of the world.
