SUBJECT: Resolution 2011 -076 Approving Memorial Day Parade
Street Closure and Use of Central Park
Background:
The Rice County Central Veterans Association will be holding the Memorial Day
Parade on Monday, May 30, 2011, honoring our Armed Forces and those who have
sacrificed for our freedom. They plan to use the same route as they have used in
previous years. Route will include Central Avenue from Division Street to 6 th Street
and 6 th Street from Central Avenue to 3 rd Avenue. The parade will run between
9:45 a.m. and 10:45 a.m.
The Veterans Association is also asking for use of Central Park from 7:00 a.m. to
1:00 p.m. for a program after the parade. The time of use allows for preparation
and cleanup for the program.
Recommendation:
Approve Resolution 2011 -076 Approving Memorial Day Parade Street Closures and
Use of Central Park.

APPROVING MEMORIAL DAY PARADE STREET CLOSURES AND
USE OF CENTRAL PARK
WHEREAS, the Rice County Central Veterans Association is hosting its
annual Memorial Day Parade and Program on Monday, May 30, 2011, and;
WHEREAS, they plan to have the Memorial Day Parade at 10:00 A.M. on
May 30, 2011, with a program following, and;
WHEREAS, the Faribault City Council is supportive of these events, and
WHEREAS, Section 15 -57 of the Faribault Code of Ordinances provides for
temporary parking restrictions by means of Council resolution,
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY OF FARIBAULT RESOLVES;
Section 1. Central Avenue from Division Street to Sixth Street NW and
Sixth Street from Central Avenue to Third Avenue NW will be closed from 9:45 AM
to 10:45 AM for the Memorial Day Parade.
Section 2. Central Park will be used from 7:00 Am to 1:00 PM for a
program following the Memorial Day Parade.

Orange traffic cones are available upon request. The applicant will be responsible for
picking up and returning the cones. Applicant will make arrangements with Public
Works 333 -0361 for date of pickup.

Greetings,
Once again, we are hoping your club or organization will participate in our Annual
n Memorial Day Parade honoring our Armed Forces and those who have given their
lives for our benefit.
A place is being tentatively reserved for you and we hope you will be part of the
parade again this year. Please plan to assemble by 9:45 AM on Monday, May 30
in the Central Avenue — Division Street vicinity. You will receive your assigned
position and instructions at that time. The parade will start at 10:00 AM sharp.
= The Parade route is the same as past years — proceeding north on Central Avenue
to 6" Street and then west to Central Park.
Parade and traffic officials will be in the staging area to assist in the lineup.
